Here are some sights where you can play a lot indoors!

①Kagoshima municipal science hall

It takes about one hour by car from Kagoshima airport or Koshikano onsen.
Kagoshima municipal science hall is located about 15 min by car from Kagoshima Chuo station.

Kagoshima is famous for Sakurajima and Tanegashima space center!
It introduces space and chemical technology, with volcanoes and rockets as its main themes.

The museum also has a large exhibit that includes Foucault's pendulum, which the French physicist Foucault devised to prove that the earth rotates on its axis, a large exhibit that allows visitors to fly over Sakurajima, and a giant 20m diorama of Sakurajima, which both children and adults can enjoy learning about.

In addition, visitors can see a planetarium that can reproduce a star-filled sky and a dome cinema that uses the world's largest film in the Space Theater, which uses a dome screen with a diameter of 23 meters♪

②Kagoshima modern literature museum & Marchen fairy tale museum

The next spot is Kagoshima modern literature museum and Marchen fairy tale museum, located about 15 min by car from the Kagoshima science hall.

Opened in 1998, the museum collects, stores, and exhibits materials related to modern literature associated with Kagoshima.
The library zone is a bit like a library with works of literature and children's books also related to Kagoshima.

The Fairy Tale museum has exhibits, trick art, and mini-athletic facilities that allow visitors to experience the world of fairy tales and picture books while playing.

③Kagoshima History and Art Centre Reimeikan

Next on our list is the Kagoshima History and Art Centre Reimeikan, within walking distance to Kagoshima modern literature museum & Marchen fairy tale museum !

The Kagoshima Prefectural History and Art Centre Reimeikan was built on the site of the main castle of the Shimazu family's residence, Kagoshima Castle (Tsurumaru Castle), to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Meiji era.

The museum holds more than 150,000 items of valuable cultural heritage and has a permanent exhibition of around 3,000 items, making it a sightseeing spot well worth seeing!
If you take the time to visit the museum, it will take you several hours, so if you get tired, take a break at the CHIN JUKAN POTTERY coffee shop on the first floor of Reimeikan

The Goromon Gate, the entrance to Reimeikan, was rebuilt in March 2020 as part of the 150th anniversary of the Meiji Restoration of Tsurumaru Castle, which was destroyed by fire in 1873!

Beautiful lotus flowers bloom in the moat in season.
It is not certain when these lotus flowers were planted, but it is said that they may have been planted between 1872 and 1903♪

There is a bronze statue of Takamori Saigo and Terukuni shrine in the immediate vicinity of Reimeikan, so it is a recommended sightseeing spot for a stroll!

④Io World Kagoshima aquarium

Driving toward the seaside from the Shiroyama observatory, it takes about 10 min to reach Io World Kagoshima aquarium.

Io World Kagoshima aquarium is the only aquarium in Kyushu that has whale sharks. 30,000 whale sharks of about 500 species are on display, and the lively fish swimming in the aquarium are very relaxing.

In addition, at Io World Kagoshima aquarium, you can see various events several times a day, such as dolphin shows and whale sharks eating.
This is a sightseeing spot that both adults and children can enjoy all day long, so be sure to visit!

⑤Koshikano onsen

The final spot we would like to highlight is Koshikano Onsen, situated approximately 60 minutes away by car from Io World Kagoshima Aquarium.
